Who We Are - SMS
Our students have access to programs and services that allow them to achieve success in the classroom and in the community.
We are proud of our many curriculum offerings, as well as the great accomplishments of our students. The success of our students is a reflection of the quality of education our staff continues to provide. The district looks to the future as it embraces the ever-changing landscape of education and as well as maintaining financial stability, strong leadership, and quality education.
Mission + Vision
It is the mission of Sidney City Schools to inspire, empower, and prepare our students for their best future.
Our vision is to meet the needs of all students in a safe, respectful, and responsible learning community.
Our School
Our staff and students will lead by example and will encourage a positive environment for learning. In our daily activities, we will be safe, we will be challenged, we will be collaborative, and we will be exceptional.
Sidney Middle School serves students in grades 5-8. The school year is divided into two semesters, with four 9 week grading periods. The school day runs from 7:30 AM to 2:40 PM; classes are 55-64 minutes long.
Sidney Middle School seeks to meet the needs of gifted students through acceleration. Acceleration occurs when students move through traditional curriculum at rates faster than typical. Among the many forms of acceleration are grade-skipping, or subject-based acceleration (e.g., when a fifth-grade student takes a 6th grade math course). Students at SMS have the opportunity to take high school level classes by walking across the SHS/SMS campus.
SMS is accredited in Ohio by the Ohio Department of Education and is a member of the Greater Western Ohio Conference and Ohio High School Athletic Association in athletics.
Sidney City Schools offers more than 70 extracurricular activities for students from 6th grade on.
